Actress Julianne Moore, 62, grew up between America and Europe. She has starred in The Big Lebowski, Boogie Nights, The End of the Affair and Still Alice, for which she won the Oscar for best actress. She has also written children’s books. She is married to the film director Bart Freundlich; they live in New York and have a son and daughter.

My red hair made me feel like an outsider growing up. Redheads are 2 per cent of the global population. Nobody wants to feel like they’re in the minority, particularly as a young child. Now I feel very identified with my hair and freckles, but there’s still a part of me that would rather be a tanned blonde.
